[Academic Lecture] Mr Cheuk Wa Chan and Mr Cheng Yu Miu: Digital Banking - Intelligent Finance by Fintech


In the afternoon of 27th November 2024, the Faculty of Data Science of the City University of Macau invited Ant Bank's Director Cheuk Wa Chan and General Manager Cheng Yu Miu to hold a seminar on the topic of Digital Banking - Intelligent Finance by Fintech in the classroom CLG201A. The event attracted many students and teachers. The event attracted a large number of students and teachers, and the two speakers discussed the application and future development of technology in the financial field.

 

Mr Cheuk Wa Chan, Director of Securities Business of Ant Bank, has 20 years of experience in securities in the Greater Bay Area, graduated from Oxford University Business School and has been a part-time lecturer at various universities. Cheng Yu Miu is the General Manager of Business Development Department of Ant Bank (Macau), focusing on the convergence of new financial business and Internet banking, and the creation of innovative services of Internet banking in Macau through financial technology. Both speakers are veteran payment experts in Macau, having worked as managers of large Chinese banks and payment institutions, focusing on the payment sector and promoting the e-payment revolution in Macau as well as the popularization of mobile payment.

 

During the seminar, Mr Cheng Yu Miu, General Manager of Ant Bank, shared his rich industry experience with Ant Bank, introduced Macau Alipay, which he had led the development of, and highlighted the innovative services that Ant Bank had launched to facilitate customers' business. He pointed out that the deep integration of the financial industry with Internet banking is changing the face of traditional financial services, providing users with a more convenient and efficient experience.

 

Mr Cheuk Wa Chan, Director, shared his many years of experience in the securities investment field when he was a trader at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. In his talk, he elaborated on how technology has brought innovations to the securities business, including examples of smart trading systems, real-time data analysis and the application of blockchain technology in securities trading. These innovations have not only improved trading efficiency but also enhanced market transparency.

 

The seminar was well received by the students and teachers, who actively participated in the discussion and put forward their views on the future development of FinTech, such as how to integrate the latest research results in computer science to promote innovation in the financial field, as well as some of Macau's unique policies and future trends, etc. The seminar enabled the students to realize the importance of FinTech to the society. The seminar enabled students to realize the complementary nature of the financial industry and the development of Internet technology, and further stimulated participants to develop and explore the intersection of finance and data science, and to contribute to the healthy development of the smart financial industry in the future.
