1. Programme background 

 

The Master of Computer Science Programme is a new programme offered by the Faculty of Data Science to coordinate with the development plan of the Macau Special Administrative Region and the national digital economy development strategic plan. Designed for students who are interested in learning computer science and technology and applying computer science knowledge to complex scientific problems in a big data environment. The goal of this programme is to cultivate future innovative talents in computer science-related fields. Through the training of this programme, students will be equipped with skills in artificial intelligence (deep learning, federated learning, big data analysis, data mining, etc.) and information security (post-quantum cryptography, blockchain, public key cryptography, data privacy protection, etc.) The ability to comprehensively apply the scientific theories learned, analyze problems and solve problems in related fields. 

 

2. Cultivation Objectives 

 

In line with the development plan of the Macau Special Administrative Region and the national digital economy development strategic plan, the overall training objectives of the Master of Computer Science Programme are: talents with a solid theoretical foundation in natural science and information science; talents with knowledge in the professional fields of artificial intelligence and information security; talents with the ability to engage in scientific research and technology development capabilities, pragmatic talents who combine industry, academia and research; cross-field growth talents with innovative awareness and lifelong learning motivation; scientific research and application talents with international vision, Chinese sentiment and cross-cultural cooperation capabilities. The training goals in the direction of Artificial Intelligence” also include: 

 

  1. 1. Cultivate professionals who are patriotic (loving the country and Macau), master data science and artificial intelligence-related knowledge, combine theory with practice, and have both analysis and application that are needed for the development of the country and Macau. 

  1. 2. Cross-disciplinary talents who can apply their knowledge flexibly in different fields to solve practical problems in complex and changing situations. 

 

The training objectives of the "Information Security" direction also include: 

 

  • 1. Cultivate patriotic (loving the country and Macau) information security talents needed for the development of the country and Macau, establish technical and management security protection for data systems. 
  • 2. Cultivate comprehensive talents who are proficient in basic knowledge such as security detection, encryption technology, protection strategies, and defense technologies, and can solve practical problems in complex situations. 

 

Graduates will have the following qualities: 

 

。Master solid basic knowledge of computer science theory and have the ability to understand and integrate it. 

。Have strong application capabilities in artificial intelligence and information security, understand industrial development, and pay equal attention to industry, academia, and research.

  1. The Cultivation Objectives of this programme is to cooperate with the development plan of the Macau Special Administrative Region and the national digital economy development strategic plan. Cultivate professionals with both scientific research and application capabilities in the fields of artificial intelligence and information security who are patriotic (loving country and Macao) needed for the development of the country and Macau. 

  1. During their study period, students need to complete the compulsory credits, major core and elective credits and various training requirements stipulated in the programme, obtain a total of 37 credits. The specific distribution is as follows: 10 credits in total for the 4 compulsory courses listed in Table 1; the selected courses listed in Table 2 three major compulsory courses in one major area total 9 credits; two major elective courses in the major area selected in Table 3 total 6 credits; the dissertation listed in Table 4 has 12 credits, totaling 37 credits. 

  1. Major elective courses will be offered based on actual needs and circumstances. If there are insufficient students, the course will not be open. 

  1. The specific course arrangements in the student's personal training plan are determined by the supervisor and the student based on the professional scope and research direction. After completing the required courses, students can start writing the thesis proposal report. After the proposal report is approved, you can start writing the thesis. 

  1. Students must publish at least one paper in an academic journal recognized by City University of Macau during their master's degree programme. 

 

​Publish as first author or *second author or corresponding author in the following list: 

  • SCI  Journal or
  • EI Journal or
  • EI conference papers (included in IEEE Xplore, ACM, Springer) 1 article or
  • Peking University Chinese Core N/Q, T/X Comprehensive Science and Technology refers to 120 Journals or 
  • The Computer Federation of China recommends international academic conferences and journals, and the Computer Federation of China recommends a directory of Chinese science and technology journals. 
  • Obtained an international or domestic invention patent copyright while studying 

Note:

a. If the student is the second author, the supervisor must be the first author. 

b. All published articles must be related to the research of the dissertation, have City University of Macau as the first author, and be published publicly. 

c. Students must submit their acceptance certificate or email of article acceptance, and the faculty will review the publication of relevant graduation requirements. 

d. The above are the basic requirements of this faculty. 

  1. During the period of studying for a master's degree, students must participate in at least five academic special projects approved by the academic committee of the faculty, totaling 1 credit. 

  1. Students who have passed the dissertation oral defense and obtained a total of 37 credits, and do not violate the relevant regulations of the university, students can apply for the award of master's degree in accordance with the City University of Macau's master's degree application procedures.

4. Teaching requirements 

 

  1. 1. Students must complete 7 compulsory courses and 2 elective courses during the study period and take exams. Those who pass will be awarded course credits, a total of 24 credits. 

  1. 2. After completing the compulsory and elective courses, students can start writing the proposal report and graduation thesis. If students pass the thesis defense, obtain a total of 37 credits, and do not violate relevant university regulations, students can apply for the award of master's degree in accordance with the City University of Macau's master's degree application procedure. 

 

Admission criteria 

 

1. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree. Priority will be given to candidates with prerequisite academic qualifications in computer science, information science, artificial intelligence, data science, information security, data analysis, data management, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, data collection, database and other related fields and related majors. 

2. Applicants are required to take the entrance examination organized by City University of Macau and will be admitted on the basis of merit.
