City University of Macau and Guangdong First Veterans Hospital jointly establish an internship and training base, For the deep integration of industry, academia and research



The Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau and the Guangdong Provincial First Veterans Hospital recently signed a cooperation framework agreement for an off-campus internship and training base in Guangzhou. This cooperation marks a solid step forward for both parties in the collaborative innovation of big health and artificial intelligence technology. The signing ceremony was presided over by Fan Peiwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangdong Provincial First Veterans Hospital. Wanlei Zhou, Vice President of the City University of Macau, and Rong Zeng, President of the Veterans Hospital, respectively signed the agreement and awarded plaques on behalf of both parties. Xuejun Zhang, Vice Director of the Provincial Department of Veterans Affairs, Hongbing Bai, Director of the Preferential Sports and Welfare Department of the Provincial Department of Veterans Affairs, members of the hospital leadership team, middle-level cadres and business backbones from various departments attended and witnessed the signing ceremony. 

 

Wanlei Zhou, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau, stated that in the wave of the digital age, data science has profound application value in the medical field. By leveraging the professional advantages and talent reserves of City University of Macau in the fields of data science, artificial intelligence, and information security, and sharing resources and experience with Veterans Hospital, both parties can work together to promote the development of smart healthcare. At the same time, we will create an internship and training platform for students, allowing students from different professional backgrounds to access real topics and research, promoting the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, cultivating more talents with professional competence and innovation ability in the field of smart healthcare, promoting the transformation and iterative upgrading of scientific research technology in the Greater Bay Area, and creating a new chapter in the development of medical and data science. 

 

Rong Zeng, the director of the Guangdong Provincial First Veterans Hospital, stated that the cooperation with the Faculty of Data Science is not only a milestone in the hospital's development process, but also an active exploration of the integration of industry, academia and research by both sides. She emphasized that this cooperation not only provides strong technical support for hospitals but also establishes a new model of school doctor cooperation in the Greater Bay Area. The two sides will carry out deep cooperation in projects such as big health, smart healthcare, and artificial intelligence, promoting the development of medical technology innovation and health services. Simultaneously opening up a new situation of mutual benefit and win-win, injecting new vitality into the cause of health. 

 

After the successful signing ceremony, Wenjian Liu, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at the City University of Macau, gave a special lecture on the topic of "Artificial Intelligence Joining Hands with Veterans Hospital". Professor Liu elaborated on the future development potential and wide application scenarios of the "AI+healthcare" field in a clear and concise manner, with rich content and vivid cases. The attending cadres and staff expressed that they had benefited greatly. 

In the future, both sides will continue to expand the breadth and depth of cooperation, promote resource sharing, information interconnection, experience mutual learning, and complementary advantages, carry out diverse and content rich medical and health cooperation, and make new and greater contributions to the construction of the Healthy Bay Area.
