Recently, the list of winners of the 2024 National College Student Mathematics Competition was officially announced. Five undergraduate students from the Faculty of Data Science, Ling Yuan, Hao Yan, Zhenshun Liu, Xiaoyan Liu, and Jiaqi Wang, won the third prize in the National College Student Mathematics Competition (Non-Mathematics Category B).

The National College Students Mathematics Competition is hosted by the Chinese Mathematical Society. It is the highest-level basic mathematics competition for college students in China. It has been held annually since 2009 for undergraduates across the country. It aims to stimulate the enthusiasm of college students to learn mathematics, provide a stage for college students to demonstrate basic knowledge and thinking ability, and strengthen universities' selection and training of innovative talents. It is reported that a total of 15,842 students from 75 schools in Guangdong Province (covering Hong Kong and Macau) have registered for this competition, making the scale of the event unprecedented.

Behind this great achievement are months of careful planning and solid training. Before the competition, the instructor, Assistant Professor Hoi Io Kong, tailored a systematic training course for the students around core contents such as limits and continuity, derivatives, differentials, multiple integrals, etc., to comprehensively strengthen the students' mathematical foundation.
