CityU and Huawei Macau sign a cooperation agreement to jointly build an ICT Academy to help Macau foster scientific and technological innovation momentum


City University of Macau and Huawei Macau signed a memorandum of cooperation at the 5th BEYOND International Science and Technology Innovation Expo yesterday. The two parties will focus on two core areas: academic cooperation and talent training. By providing cutting-edge technologies and resources such as artificial intelligence (AI), Huawei Cloud, and the Internet of Things, they will help City University of Macau’s Faculty of Data Science to establish an innovative joint laboratory and an artificial intelligence research platform, and systematically formulate talent training plans for the entire school, promote the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, and cultivate scientific and technological innovation industry talents required for Macau’s “1+4 moderately diversified economic development”, and accelerate the improvement of the local scientific and technological innovation ecosystem. The memorandum of cooperation was jointly signed by CityU Vice-President Zhou Wanlei and Huawei Macau Deputy General Manager Zhu Zhihua, and witnessed by Chen Zurong, Deputy Director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Huang Jianwu, Director of the Education Research and Planning Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Wu Zaiquan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of City University of Macau, and Li Yingjie, General Manager of Huawei Macau.

 

In the future, the two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation based on CityU's disciplinary advantages and Huawei's practical experience accumulated in the ICT field over the years. On the academic front, CityU will join Huawei’s innovation research program to jointly conduct cutting-edge technology research. The two parties will also jointly build an artificial intelligence research platform, promote the implementation of Huawei's full-scenario AI solutions, work together to create an AI ecosystem, and promote local AI applications and development in Macau. In terms of talent cultivation, Huawei ICT Academy will develop talent cultivation plans with CityU around current hot fields such as AI, Huawei Cloud, Big Data, and the Internet of Things, covering curriculum development, textbook writing, innovative practices, and student competitions, etc. It will also regularly hold teacher training, science and technology lectures, academic exchanges and other activities to help CityU teachers and students improve their scientific and technological literacy and comprehensive strength in all aspects.

 

Vice-President Zhou Wanlei said that this powerful alliance marks a new stage in the cooperation between CityU and Huawei. Relying on Huawei's many years of experience in the ICT field, CityU will fully integrate the advantageous resources of all parties, build an innovative education model with deep integration of industry, academia and research based on the school's strategic development plan and cutting-edge industry trends, jointly cultivate leading talents in data science and information technology, help Macau seize the initiative in digital transformation, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Macau's scientific and technological innovation ecosystem.

 

General Manager Li Yingjie said that Huawei has been working closely with CityU for a long time and is committed to cultivating application-oriented and pragmatic scientific and technological talents. This cooperation lays the foundation for both parties to further complement each other's strengths and jointly create a new model of industry-university-research cooperation. Huawei ICT Academy will stimulate the innovative thinking of CityU teachers and students from multiple dimensions including courses, training, technology lectures, academic exchanges, etc., help them understand the latest ICT technology and product knowledge, encourage and support more students to actively participate in Huawei ICT competitions, and cultivate more competitive and innovative scientific and technological talents for Macau.
