On the morning of December 2, 2025, the final of the 3rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Postgraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition reached its climax at the Guangzhou Institute of Xi’an Electronic Science and Technology University. The winning team from City University of Macau (CityU Macau) consisted of three students from the Faculty of Data Science: YuanCheng Shao, Yuqiao Chen, and Ziyue Liu. Under the guidance of Professor Jia Gu, their project titled "Development of a High-Degree-of-Freedom Flexible Continuum Intelligent Surgical Robot" stood out among the competition, earning the First Prize in the Innovation category on behalf of CityU Macau.
This competition, co-organized by 30 domestic and international universities and partner institutions, attracted a total of 142 projects with 601 participants. The postgraduate and doctoral student members of the competing projects hailed from 66 universities worldwide. A total of 43 projects advanced to the final round, spanning multiple cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Biomedicine & Health, Modern High-End Equipment, Low-Altitude Economy, New-Generation Information Technology, Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Economy, Big Data, and Cultural Creativity.
During the award ceremony, the top three teams in both the Innovation and Entrepreneurship categories were specially honored with first, second, and third prizes, recognizing their outstanding achievements in technological innovation, business model exploration, and market potential. This not only serves as a collective acknowledgment of excellent innovative results but also acts as active encouragement and directional guidance for the young students of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to engage in scientific research, innovation, and industrial practice.

This honor belongs to every member of our team and would not have been possible without the careful guidance of Professor Jia Gu and the extensive platform provided by our university.
During the competition preparation process, Professor Gu helped us meticulously refine our topic selection and delve deeper step by step into the research. In moments of confusion when we encountered bottlenecks, and in moments of clarity following each discussion, Professor Gu consistently provided us with dedicated guidance through his profound knowledge, rigorous attitude, and limitless patience.
The path of technological innovation is endless. This honor is a milestone and, even more so, a new starting point. We will use this as motivation to continue upholding the spirit of seeking truth, pragmatism, exploration, and innovation, contributing our modest efforts to industry advancement and societal development.
