Another breakthrough in scientific research and innovation! Professor Gu Jia has successfully secured substantial funding from the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund

Recently, the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau has made new progress in its research development. The research project, "Research and Development of Multimodal Pathology-Protein Gene Data Fusion Technology for Precision Diagnosis of Gastrointestinal Cancers," led by Professor Gu Jia, has officially received funding from the Science and Technology Development Fund of the Macao Special Administrative Region. This funding signifies that the School's research layout and technological accumulation in the interdisciplinary fields of smart healthcare, medical big data, and precision medicine have gained recognition and support from the SAR's scientific research authorities.

Gastrointestinal cancers are common high-risk malignant diseases in clinical practice. Current diagnostic methods are mostly based on single data dimensions, which have limitations such as subjective interpretation differences and insufficient sensitivity in early identification, thus affecting the improvement and implementation of precision diagnosis and treatment systems to some extent. Addressing these clinical technical pain points, this research project focuses on multimodal medical data fusion, integrating multi-source heterogeneous data such as pathological imaging, protein expression, and genomics to construct a digestive tract cancer analysis and diagnostic model with intelligent, automated, and high-precision characteristics. The aim is to overcome the limitations of traditional single-detection technologies, providing scientific and data-driven technical support for early disease screening, accurate subtyping, and prognostic assessment, and contributing to the optimization of clinical diagnosis and treatment processes.

Professor Gu Jia, the project leader, is currently a professor at the Faculty of Data Science, City University of Macau. He primarily supervises doctoral and master's students and has long been deeply involved in interdisciplinary research fields such as data science, medical artificial intelligence, and intelligent medical devices. He possesses many years of experience in the research and management of key scientific research projects. Professor Gu Jia has focused on applied research in artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering, participating in and leading multiple National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, National Key Research and Development Programs, provincial and ministerial-level projects, and key research projects in Macau. He has published numerous high-level academic papers and obtained several authorized invention patents, demonstrating a solid research foundation and academic accumulation in medical data fusion and intelligent diagnostic technologies.

The successful approval of this project is not only a full affirmation of the project team's previous research foundation and technical approach but also reflects the Faculty of Data Science's long-standing commitment to the development strategy of "data science empowering interdisciplinary fields." The School continues to focus on cutting-edge areas such as smart healthcare, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics, steadily promoting the coordinated development of basic research and applied technology research, actively undertaking various research projects at all levels, and serving Macau's scientific and technological innovation development and the construction of the digital healthcare industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area with its research achievements.
