The Faculty of Data Science (FDS) of City University of Macau held the award ceremony of the "A Day in the Life of an FDS Freshman" Vlog Competition at Room N510. Open to all FDS undergraduate freshmen, the competition encouraged students to document their study moments and everyday life on camera, presenting, through a first-person lens, the vibrant campus life and energetic spirit of FDS freshmen. Since its launch, the competition has drawn enthusiastic participation from freshmen, whose cameras followed them through classroom learning, extracurricular activities, daily campus life and city explorations — tracing a real journey from adapting to integrating, and from exploring to growing.

The competition was divided into two categories, "Weekday" and "Weekend", encouraging participants to capture authentic moments of university life from different times and perspectives. The Weekday category focused on a regular yet fulfilling rhythm of study, while the Weekend category showcased relaxation, personal interests and urban experiences. Through editing, soundtracks, voice-overs and cinematography, the participants transformed everyday moments into heartfelt narratives of youth, expressing their individual styles while reflecting the positivity and confidence of FDS freshmen.

After review, five students received the Excellence Award and eleven students received the Finalist Award. Excellence Award: Chen Zhuo, Lê Diệu Chinh, Zhou Zexuan, Qin Jieming, Du Yanyu; Finalist Award: Fang Bangxu, Huang Zixi, Gao Lihan, Wang Linglu, Chen Yunlin, Cai Zhanxuan, Xiao Yutong, Chen Kaihong, Meng Yuqing, Zhang Ziyu, Qu Pengkai (in no particular order). The organizers noted that the winning works stood out in content presentation, creative expression and emotional resonance, fully reflecting the freshmen's keen observation of, and sincere documentation of, university life.

At the ceremony, Associate Professor Wenjian Liu, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, delivered a speech and presented the awards. He commended the students' creativity and enthusiasm, and encouraged the freshmen to record their growth through the lens and start a new chapter through action — to cherish their university years, maintain a spirit of exploration, and keep discovering themselves and broadening their horizons in both study and life. Associate Professor Hoi Io Kong and Assistant Professor Lefeng Zhang, Programme Coordinators, also attended the ceremony to present awards and took group photos with the winners, in a warm and joyful atmosphere.

More than an image-making contest, the Vlog competition provided freshmen with a platform for self-expression and peer exchange. By documenting "a day in the life of an FDS freshman", the students revisited and shared their own perspectives on university life, deepening their sense of belonging to and identification with the Faculty through the creative process.

Looking ahead, the Faculty of Data Science will continue to organize diverse campus activities, providing platforms for students to showcase themselves and record their growth, and helping freshmen integrate into university life more quickly as they embark on an exciting academic journey at City University of Macau.
