Held at The St. Regis Hong Kong on 18 September 2026, the 2026 China Cybersecurity Week – Hong Kong Sub-forum was organised by the Digital Policy Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and co-organised by the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited and the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Professional Association. Zhu Tianqing (Tianqing Zhu), Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at the City University of Macau, was invited to attend and, as a roundtable panellist, joined the dialogue "Cybersecurity Talent Development and Research Commercialisation in the Greater Bay Area in the AI Era", discussing with scholars from universities in Guangdong and Hong Kong the pathways for cultivating cybersecurity talent and translating research outcomes into applications amid the wave of artificial intelligence.

Under the theme "Innovate with Grace, Peace in Cyberspace", this year's sub-forum, now in its third edition, attracted over 400 participants from government departments, the information technology industry, the education sector and various professional fields. Bringing together representatives from government departments, industry, academia and professional organisations across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the forum facilitated exchanges on topics including cross-border data security, applications of artificial intelligence technologies, protection of critical infrastructure and talent development. It was one of the key events of the 2026 China Cybersecurity Week in Hong Kong.

The opening session featured addresses by Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Ms Luo Fengying, Deputy Director-General of the Cybersecurity Coordination Bureau of the Cyberspace Administration of China; and Mr Sean Lee Fan Fung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited, among others. During the forum, a ceremony was held to confer the "Professorate Senior Engineer" and "Senior Engineer" professional titles of the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Professional Association, alongside the award ceremony of the inaugural "AI x Cybersecurity Challenge". The competition attracted 290 team registrations from the mainland, Hong Kong and overseas, with 40 teams advancing to the final round.

In the final roundtable dialogue, "Cybersecurity Talent Development and Research Commercialisation in the Greater Bay Area in the AI Era", Dean Zhu Tianqing shared the stage with Xiapu (Daniel) Luo, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Qing Liao, Dean of the Institute of Cyberspace Security of the College of Informatics at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen); Professor Wang Cheng of the Department of Computer Science at the City University of Hong Kong; and Shuai Wang, Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Drawing on the exploration of the Faculty of Data Science in talent development and scientific research, Dean Zhu Tianqing shared her views on the cultivation model for cybersecurity talent in the AI era, the translation of university research outcomes into industrial applications, and collaborative cooperation among universities in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, engaging in interactive exchange with the guests present.

Another concluding roundtable dialogue of the forum, themed "Co-Building Hong Kong's Cybersecurity Ecosystem in the AI Era", brought together academic experts and industry representatives to discuss the direction of building the cybersecurity ecosystem amid the wave of AI. The forum also featured a cybersecurity technology exhibition area, showcasing technologies and solutions in intrusion detection, encrypted communications, identity authentication and applications of artificial intelligence in the cybersecurity field.

This participation is another step by the Faculty of Data Science in strengthening exchange and cooperation with universities, government departments and industry in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Looking ahead, the Faculty will continue to be rooted in Macau and integrated into the Greater Bay Area, advancing talent development and scientific research in data science, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, actively engaging in regional academic exchange and industry–academia–research cooperation, and contributing to the development of the digital economy and cybersecurity in the Greater Bay Area.
