WRCT 2024 World Robot Competition Selection Competition held at City University of Macau


The WRCT 2024 World Robot Competition selection competition, hosted by the Chinese Institute of Electronics and hosted by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Education and Training Association and City University of Macau, was held yesterday at the Cultural Center of City University of Macau. The competition attracted 150 primary and secondary school students from Macau and the Mainland to participate. The 18 teams that won the championship, second and third place will participate in the national finals to be held at the end of this year. Open a strong conversation with managing robots techniques between teenagers, the event aims to provide a platform for teenagers  to demonstrate their skills and encourage students to develop an innovative spirit and practical ability through a series of training in theoretical learning, logical thinking and hands-on practice, which is an important way to help them grow into high-quality talents and inject new momentum into the sustained and healthy development of the economy and society. 

 

The opening ceremony was held on the morning of October 26. Chan Iok Wai 

, acting Vice Coordinator of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Lao Ngai Leong and Vong Hin Fai, representatives of the National People's Congress of the Macau region, Si Ka Lon, vice to the National People's Congress of the Macau region and founding president of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Education and Training Association, and executive director of the Guangdong Private Education Association Coordinator Yan Zuyao, AI Innovation Unbounded Competition Organizing Committee Si Lei Yin, Programme Coordinator of the Faculty of Data Science of City University of Macau Dr. Kuok Weng Tak, president of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Education and Training Association Li Tao, and Chairman Chan Mong Kei attended the event. 

 

The theme of this AI Innovation Unbounded Competition is "Unbounded World". The competition covers three categories: primary school juniors, primary school seniors, and middle school groups. They are all team competitions. Participating students need to use sensors, mechanical structures, algorithm learning, and programming applications. etc., and carry out wheel warfare through joint confrontation. 

 

Promote in-depth exchanges between young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau 

 

In his speech, Dr. Kuok Weng Tak said that City University of Macau has always been committed to cultivating high-quality talents with international vision, innovative spirit and practical ability. We know that in this era of rapid development, technological innovation is an important force in promoting social progress, and robotics, as one of the important fields of technological innovation, is leading the future development direction. In addition to being a stage to showcase robotics technology, this competition is also an important platform to promote in-depth exchanges among young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. Through this competition, I believe that contestants can not only exercise their innovative thinking and practical abilities but also enhance friendship and expand their horizons through communication with contestants from different regions, so as to better integrate into the development of the Greater Bay Area. Be well prepared. 

 

Li Tao said that as an important member of the Greater Bay Area, Macau shoulders the important task of promoting regional scientific and technological cooperation and cultivating innovative talents. This competition will help stimulate young people’s interest in artificial intelligence, robotics and other fields, and provide a new opportunity for Macau and even the rest of the world. Technology in the Greater Bay Area has injected new vitality. The association will uphold its founding purpose, deepen cooperation with educational institutions inside and outside the Greater Bay Area, cultivate innovative talents that meet national needs, and leverage the advantages of the Greater Bay Area’s science and technology innovation corridor to promote resource sharing and improve the quality of training. It is expected that Macau will make greater progress in technological innovation, cultivate young technological talents with an international perspective through competitions, and become a new force in promoting technological development in the Greater Bay Area. 

 

The World Robot Competition has been successfully held 9 times since 2015, attracting nearly 300,000 contestants from more than 20 countries around the world. It is praised as the "Olympics" of the robotics industry and is currently a professional event in the field of robotics with wide influence at home and abroad.
