Prof. Zhou Wanlei, Vice Rector of City University of Macau and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, was invited by the Macau Science and Technology Development Fund to attend the 2024 Science and Technology Weak 2024 cum Exhibition of Achievements in Science and Technology Innovation on October 18, 2024, and served as the Guest of honor. The theme is "The History of Science and Technology Research Development of City University of Macau", sharing City University of Macau's scientific research achievements in transforming into a teaching and research-oriented university.
Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei said that City University of Macau actively cooperates with the SAR government’s long-term strategies and major measures for economic and social development and uses big data technology as a support to promote the development and construction of new humanities and social sciences and interdisciplinary subjects. In data science, financial technology, language we will make a comprehensive layout in academic fields such as culture, tourism and urban science, and Comprehensive Health, increase the input and output of scientific research, and strive to transform from a teaching university to a teaching and research university. To this end, City University of Macau is focusing on promoting work in eight major areas, including creating distinctive research centers and institutes; formulating strong research funding strategies and support and management measures; cooperating with industry, government and other academic institutions to promote research and innovation ; Develop distinctive research and innovation courses to attract top students and provide them with research opportunities; encourage teachers and students to innovate and start businesses, etc.
City University of Macau has performed well in scientific research development in recent years and has made remarkable achievements. Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei shared this. In the past two years, City University of Macau's scientific research team has undertaken more than 100 scientific research projects commissioned by national, SAR and provincial ministries and agencies, and successfully applied independently for the National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Project and the National Art Fund in 2024. At the same time, it has established a matrix of Joint R&D Institutions with many well-known enterprises and financial institutions, built joint laboratories or testing bases in the field of data science with partner companies, and vigorously expanded industry-university-research cooperation against the four major new industries in Macau. In terms of innovation and entrepreneurship, City University of Macau has taken multiple measures to help students understand the latest entrepreneurship situation and related policies, encouraged students to participate in various entrepreneurship competitions and won repeated achievements, and successfully incubated more than ten campus entrepreneurship projects, covering tourism, catering, environmental protection, culture, etc. Cultural and Creative Industry, Chinese culture, cross-border e-commerce and other different fields. Starting in 2022, City University of Macau will participate in Academician Fang Binxing’s experimental class project and establish an honorary class in 2024 to create an innovative talent training model. Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei also introduced City University of Macau’s innovations and breakthroughs in scientific research from aspects such as laboratory construction and scientific research project development.
This conference is one of the series of activities of the 2024 Science and Technology Week cum Exhibition of Achievements in Science and Technology Innovation. The Achievements Exhibition is Macau’s annual large-scale science and technology promotion event. In line with the SAR government’s “1+4” economic diversification development plan, Macau, Hengqin and surrounding areas are invited to Scientific research institutions and technology enterprises and other relevant units will participate together to showcase various outstanding innovation and technology achievements, provide industry, academia and research parties with opportunities to connect, create opportunities for exchanges and cooperation, and promote the transformation of Macau's scientific research results and industry-university-research cooperation.
