The 20th Huawei Cup China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was successfully held in September 2023, and the list of winners was recently announced. Yongjian Jia, Xier Zhong, master students from the Faculty of Data Science of City University of Macau, and another student from Renmin University of China formed a team to participate in the competition. They finally stood out from 19898 teams and won the national second prize.
The China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling is one of the themed events of the "China Graduate Innovation Practice Series Competition", guided by the Degree Management and Graduate Education Department of the Ministry of Education, and hosted by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Society and the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology. It is an academic competition aimed at conducting mathematical modeling application research for current graduate students. This competition attracted research teams from 507 universities and research institutes around the world. After two months of rigorous review and evaluation by the expert committee, 200 teams won first prize, 2659 teams won second prize, and 3981 teams won third prize.
Award acceptance speech:
Yongjian Jia: Mathematical modeling competitions require teamwork, and close collaboration with teammates is very important. Team members should trust each other, communicate effectively, and fully utilize each person's expertise and skills. Reasonable division of labor and effective collaboration can improve team efficiency and results.
Good time management skills are equally important. Reasonably arrange time to ensure that there is sufficient time to complete each stage and leave time for proofreading and modification.
Choose a suitable mathematical model based on the characteristics and requirements of the problem. The model should be able to accurately describe the problem and provide useful solutions. Choosing the appropriate model requires a certain understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of different models, and balancing and selecting them based on specific problems.
By participating in such competitions, we can better understand the types and solutions of problems, become familiar with commonly used mathematical models and tools, and improve our problem-solving abilities and efficiency.
Xier Zhong: In this year's "Huawei Cup" Mathematical Contest in Modeling, I fought alongside my teammates and won the second prize. This honor is not only a personal recognition of me, but also a motivation for my future learning and development. I will continue to work hard, constantly improve myself, and move forward courageously.
Mathematical modeling is not only the application of theoretical knowledge but also requires in-depth analysis and solution of practical problems. In the competition, we encountered many difficulties and challenges, but it is these challenges that make us think more deeply about the problem and find solutions. Through continuous discussion and exploration, we gradually found a solution to the problem and became more aware of the importance of teamwork.
Finally, I would like to thank the teachers and classmates for their support, as well as my teammates for their tacit cooperation. I hope to share my experience and insights with more classmates, work together, and make progress together!
