In order to deepen the cooperation between Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries in the field of scientific and technological innovation, the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (hereinafter referred to as the "Science and Technology Development Fund") and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (hereinafter referred to as the "Economic and Technological Development Bureau") recently organized the "Macao and Mainland Science and Technology Innovation Visit to Brazil", led by Xie Yongqiang, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund, and Chen Zurong, Deputy Director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, to visit and exchange with Sao Paulo, Brazil. Liu Wenjian, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau, participated in this visit on behalf of the university. Together with nearly 40 representatives from local and mainland universities, technology companies and investment institutions, they explored new opportunities for China-Brazil scientific and technological innovation cooperation and further promoted Macau's role as a hub in international scientific research cooperation.
The delegation's itinerary closely followed the themes of scientific and technological innovation and industrialization, and they visited a number of academic institutions, enterprises and industry associations. During the visit, the delegation also attended the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Science and Technology Fund and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) of Brazil, and witnessed the implementation of a joint funding plan by both parties in the fields of biomedicine, artificial intelligence, marine science and technology, etc. At the meeting, Vice Dean Liu Wenjian introduced the recent work of CityU’s Faculty of Data Science in the field of artificial intelligence, focusing on cross-border data, smart healthcare, and data security.
In addition, Vice Dean Liu Wenjian accompanied the delegation to visit academic and research institutions such as the University of São Paulo, São Paulo State University (Universidade Estadual Paulista, Unesp), and São Paulo Institute of Technology IPT (Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológica). At the University of São Paulo, he introduced the development and application of cutting-edge technologies such as large models and talent training by the Faculty of Data Science; at the State University of São Paulo, he shared CityU’s work and achievements in developing a new type of metropolitan university centered on data science to better serve Macau and the Greater Bay Area.
This inspection led to a number of cooperative consensuses. Vice President Liu Wenjian said that this action has opened up a pragmatic path for China-Pakistan scientific research cooperation. CityU will focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, cross-border data and smart healthcare, leverage the strengths of both Macau and São Paulo, find the right entry point, and carry out sustainable scientific research and cross-border data cooperation.
