City University of Macau and Shenzhen Juwang Spatiotemporal Big Data Technology Research Institute Establish Joint AI and Big Data Laboratory



Macau City University (hereinafter referred to as CityU) and the Shenzhen Juwang Spatiotemporal Big Data Technology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as Juwang Tech) have jointly initiated the establishment of the "Joint Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Laboratory." A signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement was recently held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Shenzhen Research Institute. Liu Wenjian, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at CityU, and Meng Qingsheng, Director of the Juwang Spatiotemporal Big Data Technology Research Institute, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. This marks a significant advancement in collaborative research on artificial intelligence (AI) and big data between CityU and Shenzhen-based research institutions.

Director Meng Qingsheng introduced Juwang Tech as an entity founded by a team of master's and doctoral graduates from prestigious institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University, and Wuhan University. Focused on AI and big data research, it collaborates with renowned universities both domestically and internationally. Juwang Tech is dedicated to the research and application of spatiotemporal data software development, data asset valuation, data monitoring, data model construction, and machine learning. It builds algorithm models to conduct information analysis, producing outputs such as asset valuations, data reports, and visualization interfaces. Through this industry-academia-research collaboration, the Joint Laboratory will function as a market-oriented new R&D institution, empowering the AI and big data industry in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and actively contributing to the high-quality development of technological innovation within the GBA.

Vice Dean Liu Wenjian expressed the hope that both parties would leverage their respective strengths in resource integration, technological R&D capabilities, scientific research capacity, product development, and talent cultivation. Adopting an attitude of complementary strengths and resource sharing, they aim to establish comprehensive, in-depth, and long-term effective cooperation, contributing to the development of high-tech industries and the cultivation of innovative talent within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Also present from Juwang Tech were Council Member Wang Mengting, Council Member Huang Yikun, and Researcher Zhang Zhiheng. They actively engaged in discussions with the CityU research team. Both sides reached a consensus on accelerating the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, particularly concerning joint project applications, commercialization of R&D outcomes, and the cultivation of professional talent.

Looking ahead, CityU will continue to promote the practical application of research outcomes and regional technological cooperation, supporting the development of Macau's technology industry and injecting new vitality into the innovation ecosystem of the Greater Bay Area. Also attending the signing ceremony from CityU's Faculty of Data Science were: Zhu Jiawei, Programme Director of the Bachelor of Computer Science; Assistant Professor Wu Gengshen; Assistant Professor Jing Fengshi; and Assistant Professor Wei Zhonglun.
