In response to the National Science Popularization Day and to deepen teenagers' understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), on November 7th, Associate Professor Liu Wenjian, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau, was invited to participate in the "Local Experts Enter Campus" activity. This event was hosted by the Macau Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology and sponsored by the Macau Foundation. At Yuet Wah College, he delivered a special lecture titled “Dancing with Artificial Intelligence: Growing and Navigating Through the AI Era” to approximately 150 teachers and students, which aligns with the school's educational orientation of gradually advancing science and technology education.
Addressing the AI-related challenges faced by teenagers, Associate Professor Liu Wenjian clearly stated that AI is a cognitive assistant rather than a competitor. The unique advantages of humans in tacit knowledge and value judgment can complement AI's efficiency advantages in data processing and pattern discovery. Logical thinking ability and human-AI collaboration models will be the key competitive strengths for teenagers to cope with future development. He also used the "Human Cognition and AI Capabilities" four-quadrant diagram to intuitively explain the path of human-AI complementary exploration of the unknown, helping teachers and students gain a clearer understanding of the collaborative relationship between AI and humans.
In recent years, Yuet Wah College has been gradually integrating AI into its education and gradually increasing AI-related content in its curriculum design and practical activities. The lecture witnessed enthusiastic interactions on site, with students actively asking questions based on their campus learning scenarios, further stimulating their enthusiasm for exploring cutting-edge technology. The Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau will continue to fulfill its social responsibilities, deepen cooperation with local secondary schools, and leverage the development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area to launch more science popularization activities tailored to the needs of teenagers, contributing to the cultivation of future talents in Macau with scientific literacy.
