Associate Dean Wenjian Liu Delivers a “Local Experts Enter Campus” Science Popularization Lecture on “AI Super-Individuals and Self-Growth”

To promote AI science popularization education, broaden young people’s horizons in science and technology, and share growth and success strategies in the AI era, Associate Professor Liu Wenjian, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau, was invited to visit Pui Va Middle School on the afternoon of September 23. As part of the “Local Experts Enter Campus” science popularization activity, organized by the Macau Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology and partially sponsored by the Macao Foundation, he delivered a special lecture titled “AI Super-Individuals and Self-Growth.” He shared cutting-edge knowledge on artificial intelligence with teachers and students at Pui Va Middle School, stimulating young people’s enthusiasm for exploring the field of science and technology, in line with the faculty’s educational direction of promoting AI science popularization and fulfilling its social responsibility.

During the lecture, Associate Professor Liu Wenjian used accessible language to bring students closer to AI technology and centered his sharing on the core theme of “understanding AI and achieving self-growth.” He vividly explained that in an era of rapid AI development, individuals can make good use of AI tools to enhance their capabilities and achieve self-breakthroughs. Outstanding future talent will not be “lone heroes” who insist on doing everything personally, but “super-individuals” who can collaborate with AI and make flexible use of intelligent tools. Even if they do not have to complete every task with their own hands, they still need to possess the corresponding core competencies. This view resonated widely among the teachers and students present.

In the interactive Q&A session, students spoke enthusiastically and actively asked questions on topics such as the future development of AI and changes in learning methods, creating a lively atmosphere. Associate Professor Liu Wenjian patiently answered questions by drawing on his own research experience and real-life examples. He emphasized that AI is an assistant that amplifies personal value, not an opponent that replaces human beings, and encouraged students to cultivate the ability to ask questions, critical thinking, logical thinking, and a commitment to lifelong learning—key elements for growth and success in the AI era.

At the same time, Hoi Io Kong, Program Coordinator of Bachelor in Intelligence Technology and Services, took the opportunity to introduce the importance of AI security to the teachers and students present. She also introduced the main research directions of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau, covering three major fields: data science, artificial intelligence, and information security. She encouraged students interested in technology to pay attention to data science-related disciplines and pursue their dreams in science and technology.

This science popularization lecture opened a window for secondary school teachers and students to understand the world of AI, enabling young people to truly experience the changes of the times brought about by technological development and to rethink the meaning of self-growth and success strategies in the AI era. The Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau will continue to fulfill its social responsibility by carrying out campus science popularization activities, promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge, building a bridge for exchange between universities and secondary schools, and deepening cooperation with local secondary schools. By leveraging the scientific and technological development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Faculty will help Macau young people improve their scientific literacy and cultivate a new generation of reserve scientific and technological talent with innovation and competitiveness.
