Professor Wanlei Zhou has been appointed Vice President of City University of Macau with effect from 12 October 2020, in charge of Academic Affairs and as Dean of the Faculty of Data Science.
Professor Zhou obtained his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from Harbin Institute of Technology, China in 1982 and 1984 respectively, his PhD in Computer Science from The Australian National University (ANU) in 1991, and his Doctor of Science (Advanced Doctorate) from Deakin University, Australia in 2002. He was awarded the Alfred Deakin Premier's Professorship in 2013.
Professor Wanlei Zhou was previously Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Technology Sydney, Principal Professor of Information Technology at Deakin University, Deputy Minister for Science, Engineering and Architecture (with responsibility for International Research Collaboration), and twice Dean of the School of Information Technology at Deakin University. He has also taught at the Chinese University of Electronic Science and Technology, Monash University, Australia, National University of Singapore, and as a visiting professor at City University of Hong Kong, Aizu University, Japan, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Nanyang Technological University, and National University of Singapore, as well as at Hewlett-Packard.
Professor Zhou specializes in cyber security and privacy protection, computer networks, distributed systems, etc. He has chaired and completed 13 Australian National Research Council (ARC) projects and successfully trained dozens of PhDs and post-docs. Professor Zhou has published more than 500 academic papers in a range of international journals and conferences, including more than 300 articles in top industry journals. He has co-edited eight books, published four books, and served as moderator for dozens of international computing conferences. Professor Zhou is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has been named for many years to the ‘Lifetime Scientific Impact List’ of the ‘World's Top 2% Scientists’ published by Stanford University and Elsevier Data.
