On 1st November 2024, the seminar series 'New Challenges of Information Security in the Age of Artificial Intelligence' was successfully held at the Conference Hall of the Macau Science Center, sponsored by the Macau Foundation, hosted by the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau, and supported by the City University of Macau. Academician Weimin Zheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor Zhuo Ma, Huashan Scholar of Xidian University were invited as the guest speakers of the seminar, which aimed to explore the new challenges and strategies of information security in the era of artificial intelligence, to enhance the understanding of Macau society on the new challenges of information security in the era of artificial intelligence, to promote the development of the local information security field, and to facilitate the progress of science popularization and research.
Ms. Jiayi Cen, Deputy-Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr. Wai Keung Tang, Director of the Education Resources Department of the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau, Mr. Weng Chi Au, member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Academician Weimin Zheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Zhuo Ma of Xidian University, and Supervisor of the Macau Association for Science and Technology , Mr. Aoao Xu, Vice President of the Macau Association for Science and Technology ), Professor WanLei Zhou Vice President of the City University of Macau and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, Mr. Hung Fat Cheong, Deputy Director of the Macau Science Center, and Mr. Keng Lim Chan, Secretary General of the Macau Association of Science and Technology and Vice Principal of Pui Ching Middle School, as well as about 200 people from science and technology fields, teachers and students, attended the seminar.
On behalf of the Macau Science and Technology Association (MSTA), Supervisor Aoao Xu expressed his warm welcome to all the guests and emphasized the importance of AI and information security in the development of science and technology as well as in the stability of the society. He said that this series of lectures is not only a platform for academic exchanges, but also an opportunity to promote the convergence of wisdom and co-operation, and looked forward to strengthening the ties between Macau and the global scientific and technological community, in order to promote the healthy development of science and technology.
Professor Wanlei Zhou pointed out that with the rapid development of AI technology, City University of Macau is committed to nurturing data science talents with international vision, and hopes to meet the challenges brought by the technology through knowledge sharing and cross-boundary co-operation, so as to ensure that the AI technology can safely and reliably benefit the society.
Academician Weimin Zheng discussed the life cycle of AI models, analyzed the demand for computing power and storage in data acquisition, pre-processing and model training, emphasized the importance of building the computing power of national intelligence, and explored the security issues of AI technology.
With the title of ‘Security Threats and Challenges of the New Generation of Artificial Intelligence’, Prof Zhuo Ma shared the team's research progress in the stages of training, use and maintenance of intelligent models, and put forward a series of solutions to safeguard the security of AI models.
The seminar not only provided an exchange platform for professionals, but also an opportunity for Macau citizens and students to understand and learn about information security. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the information security challenges in the era of artificial intelligence and explored solutions together.
