On the morning of September 12, 2024, Professor Zhou Wanlei, Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at the City University of Macau, led a delegation from the university to attend the opening ceremony and symposium of Minzu University of China Hainan International College. The delegation members include Associate Professor Liu Wenjian, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, and Associate Professor Chu Chia-Wei, Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree Program in Computer Science. 

At the opening ceremony, Professor Zhou Wanlei delivered a speech as a representative, sharing his own experiences with the new students and encouraging them to work hard to find their areas of expertise and persevere, rebuilding their confidence. He emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary learning for data science and big data majors, encouraging students to develop good habits of lifelong learning in the future, strengthen communication and collaboration skills through exposure to knowledge from different fields, and thus improve their professional level. 

After the ceremony, Professor Zhou Wanlei had a discussion with the freshmen majoring in Data Science and Big Data Technology. In addition to introducing the course features, they also listened to the freshmen's ideas on learning and the course for a two-way exchange. 

In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation held a symposium with the Minzu University of China in the conference room on the second floor of the Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone, Hainan. Professor Zhou Wanlei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Hainan International College, and Professor Shi Yazhou from Hainan International College further utilized their own advantages and held discussions and exchanges on talent cultivation, scientific research, cultural inheritance, and serving society. 

Professor Zhou Wanlei introduced the development process and discipline construction of City University of Macau. He stated that as one of the important universities in Macau, City University of Macau has always had a strong sense of patriotism and adhered to the development direction of "Macau characteristics, Chinese soul, and international perspective". He stated that the City University of Macau attaches great importance to the cooperative education project with the Minzu University of China in Hainan, and will continue to select more outstanding teachers, carry out teaching reforms, fully support and cooperate with the Minzu University of China, jointly promote the high-quality development of Hainan International College, and cultivate outstanding talents for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Greater Bay Area. 

Professor Shi Yazhou reviewed the cooperation projects between Minzu University of China and City University of Macau, as well as the establishment of the "Beijing Macau Cultural Exchange Center". He introduced the new achievements of Minzu University of China in strengthening the sense of community of the Chinese nation and the construction of science and engineering, as well as the good development trend of the undergraduate education project on data science and big data technology jointly organized by the two sides. He pointed out that both sides should fully tap into their respective advantages, strengthen the construction of all English textbooks and courses on the existing good foundation, further promote the reform of education, teaching and talent cultivation models, strengthen the support and leading role of scientific research in talent cultivation, and strive to achieve high-quality employment or high-level education for students. 

The participants in the discussion and exchange included Associate Professor Liu Wenjian, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Data Science at the City University of Macau, Associate Professor Chu Chia-Wei, Assistant Professor Zhong Qi, Assistant Professor Zhu Congcong, Assistant Professor Qi Minfeng, and Assistant Professor Wang Minghao, as well as Weng Yu, Dean of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office and School of Information Engineering at the Minzu University of China, Dai Mingli, Vice Dean of Hainan International College, Li Yinhao, Chief of the Service Management Department of the International Cooperation Office, Shuai Yongxue, Commissioner for International and Domestic Cooperation and Exchange, Wang Furong, Commissioner for Teaching Affairs, and Jin Xiaoxiao, Head of the Education and Teaching Service Department of the Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone, Hainan. 

The Undergraduate Education Program in Data Science and Big Data Technology is a cooperative education program between mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan approved by the Ministry of Education in October 2022. The program is located in the Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone, Hainan, and is jointly organized by the Minzu University of China and the City University of Macau. Enrollment will officially begin in 2023.
