The closing ceremony of the '2024 X-Challenge Disruptive Innovation Challenge Camp' (hereinafter referred to as 'X-Camp'), sponsored by Shenzhen X-Institute and jointly organized by the Double Helix Center of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School, with the goal of selecting and cultivating high-level innovative talents, was successfully held at Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School. At the closing ceremony, Jun Liu, President of City University of Macau, and Quanshui Zheng, Founding Dean of Shenzhen X-Institute, signed a cooperation agreement to build a joint training platform for outstanding innovative talents. Tianyu Chen and Yanze Zhang, two students from the Faculty of Data Science at the City University of Macau, participated in this year's 'X-Camp'. Among them, Chen Tianyu and his group members' research achievement 'Hybrid Self-healing UAV Cluster Forest Firefighting System Based on embodied intelligence' won the Disruptive Innovation Project Award presented by the organizer.
At the event, President Jun Liu, on behalf of the City University of Macau, signed a contract with Shenzhen X-Institute to achieve strategic cooperation in promoting the comprehensive implementation of the integrated top-notch innovative talent training model. In the future, we will jointly promote the development of high-quality education and expand the ecosystem of innovative talent training. Rector Liu Jun fully exchanged views with other experts and scholars, including Dongming Guo, an academician of the CAE Member, Yeguang Chen, an academician of the CAS Member, Xiaodong Chen, an academician of the Royal Academy of Sciences of New Zealand, Jun Yang, an academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Quanshui Zheng, who were present at the meeting, and jointly discussed the mode of top-notch talent training and future cooperation plans.
As an innovative research-based learning camp, this year's 'X-Camp' has reached tens of thousands of students worldwide. After comprehensive selection, about 140 middle school students and 220 college students were successfully selected to conduct a 20 day scientific research and innovation exploration at Shenzhen X-Institut. At the closing ceremony, representatives of university students participating in the 2024 'X-Camp' publicly showcased the research results of 9 innovative projects - all based on real and cutting-edge global challenges. Leaders and experts from various universities and institutions around the world, as well as innovative education related institutions, and those who are concerned about the cultivation of high-level innovative talents in the context of the new era, listened to excellent project reports as academic guests and had in-depth exchanges with students in the Q&A interactive session and Gallery Walk session.
Tianyu Chen, a junior student in the University of Intelligent Technology and Services at the Faculty of Data Science, and his group members reported on their innovative project research results, "A hybrid self-healing drone cluster forest firefighting system based on embodied intelligence". This project utilizes a combination of hybrid sensors and "hybrid oil electric unmanned aerial vehicles" as the hardware foundation. It adopts a hierarchical model of unmanned aerial vehicles for regulation and scheduling. In the hierarchical regulation, a host election algorithm is designed, and cluster obstacle avoidance is simulated from the "god's perspective" of the host. Compared with traditional distributed or centralized methods, the system solves the problem of complex difficulty or host loss. In terms of single machine obstacle avoidance, deep reinforcement learning is adopted, and diffusion models are used as the basis for obstacle avoidance. Compared with traditional obstacle avoidance algorithms, it has better obstacle avoidance effects in complex environments. Finally, a "lifelong federated reinforcement learning framework" is proposed to train embodied agents, which achieves high sensitivity and deep reinforcement through the use of sensor mixing. The self-determination of learning Distributed training and real-time computing of "edge computing" are equipped with training specific intelligence, and the idea of digital twins is used for data acquisition, which is convenient for subsequent simulation training.
Tianyu Chen: Thank you to the University for giving me this opportunity to come to the "X-Camp" of X-Institute and experience the collision of thinking. In such a place where scientific research dreams are ignited, I feel the purest joy of scientific research. In a relaxed atmosphere, you may see the exploration and practice of innovative education models by X-Institute in recent years and may understand its mission and value. Unconsciously, you may enter the open school form created by X-Institute and immerse yourself in its innovative education system. In the two weeks of X-Institute, my teammates and I had laughter, arguments, and also experienced breaking and reorganizing plans. Thanks to everyone's joint efforts, our project finally took the stage of presentation.
Yanze Zhang: These two weeks at X-Institute were brief yet long. I challenged a track that was completely different from my major, requiring me to learn a lot of new knowledge and come up with various ideas in a wild and imaginative way. In a lively discussion with everyone, we jointly designed a plan and verified its feasibility. The colorful 'Owl Night' also benefited me greatly. I have gained a lot from exchanging and sharing with peers, top academicians, and outstanding seniors from all over the world. X-Institute encourages students to express their ideas boldly without any constraints or restrictions. This study camp not only allowed me to gain knowledge, but more importantly, it improved my thinking and learning methods, which will be a valuable asset for my future learning and growth.
