Vice Dean Wenjian Liu leads a delegation to Hainan for academic exchange and discussion on AI driven future development in the era of digital intelligence

In order to effectively enhance the establishment of a solid and good cooperation foundation between the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau and higher education institutions in Hainan, and to improve the quality of undergraduate education in data science and big data technology for cooperative education, Vice Dean Wenjian Liu of the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau and his delegation visited and exchanged academic knowledge in Hainan from June 3-7, 2024.

During the visit, the delegation visited Hainan University and visited the teaching facilities and laboratories of the School of Information Science and Technology, leaving a deep impression on the teaching level and research strength of the college. Professor Jia Ren introduced the research achievements of the college in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and big data. Both sides had in-depth discussions on student exchange programmes, joint training of graduate students, and conducting academic seminars, laying the foundation for further deepening cooperation in the future.

In addition, the delegation successfully held three special lectures at Minzu University of China Hainan International College, aimed at expanding the knowledge of artificial intelligence technology and its applications for students majoring in data science and big data technology. The lectures were given by Associate Professor Liu Wenjian and Professor Jia Gu, Vice Dean of the City University of Macau, and Associate Professor Chia-Wei Chu, Programme Coordinator. About 80 teachers and students from the Programme of Big Data listened in person.

The first lecture was given by Associate Professor Wenjian Liu, introducing the prospects and key challenges of artificial intelligence. He gave detailed descriptions from three aspects: "The core technology of artificial intelligence and its application prospects in various fields", "The opportunities and risks brought by AI technology to society, the key issues that need attention", and "How to cultivate high-level artificial intelligence talents with comprehensive qualities". During the lecture, in order to help students better learn in the field of artificial intelligence, Teacher Liu provided a detailed and comprehensive chart, showing the urgent problems and skills that need to be learned in the field of artificial intelligence. He also introduced key AI technologies such as cloud computing and popularized some important algorithms for students. Regarding the current problems and challenges faced by data science, Teacher Liu has summarized and provided some suggestions to help students better grasp the direction of future learning in the context of current technological development.

In the second lecture, Professor Jia Gu introduced the application of computer vision and artificial intelligence in biomedicine to the students. Teacher Gu provided a detailed analysis of the basic architecture of convolutional neural networks, U-Net, which not only expands students' knowledge but also points out an important and cutting-edge research path. Examples of applications such as medical chatbots and medical imaging have sparked students' interest in exploring this field. Based on real data, Teacher Gu also pointed out that the expansion of medical databases has not only helped medical practitioners but also greatly facilitated medical practice. It has demonstrated the contribution of big data technology in the medical field to the country and even the world, inspiring students to continue to make great strides on their professional path.

In the third lecture, Associate Professor Chia-Wei Chu led the students to overview the application prospects of AI with the topic of "Application and Exploration of Artificial Intelligence in Financial Early Warning". Teacher Chu pointed out that the malignant bankruptcy of enterprises has a huge negative impact on the investing public and society, so financial warning is becoming increasingly important. AI can analyze a large amount of historical financial data, identify patterns and trends, and predict possible risk events in advance. The development of risk management strategies by financial institutions not only plays a crucial role but also protects the rights and interests of investors and stabilizes the entire investment market. In order to help students better understand, Teacher Chu also supplemented some content on data mining and machine learning, as well as several accounting related formulas.

In the interactive link of each lecture, the lecturer gave systematic and detailed answers to the questions of teachers and students about industry technology and development, specific project application examples, etc., and expected students to continue to strengthen the learning and application of AI technology and contribute their own strength to the development of China's artificial intelligence industry.

This academic lecture provides valuable opportunities for students to have face-to-face communication with experts in the field of AI, enhancing their understanding and recognition of data science and cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence. The competition in today's world has already transformed into a competition for technological strength. We hope that all students can improve their scientific literacy through continuous learning and contribute to the beautiful future of our country. The series of activities in the era of digital intelligence effectively promoted comprehensive exchanges between Hainan International College of the Minzu University of China and City University of Macau, creating a strong academic atmosphere for the construction of the Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone
