The graduation (Final year) project is an important part of undergraduate training, and is an important point of integration between teaching, research and social practice. Doing a good job in graduation design is of great significance in improving the comprehensive ability and overall quality of students.
1. Purpose and requirements
The graduation (Final year) project is a basic training to train students to comprehensively apply the basic theory, professional knowledge and basic skills of the subject for comprehensive practice. It aims to cultivate students' ability to independently ask questions, analyze problems and solve problems, and enhance their innovation consciousness and innovation ability.
2. Process management
The graduation (Final year) project includes grouping and selection of topics, group meetings and guidance, thesis submission and oral defense, etc. Supervisors are responsible for the quality of project thesis/report. The instructors are responsible for the quality of the graduation project, while the faculty is responsible for the process management, supervision and quality control.
(i) Grouping and topic selection
1. Under the principle of tailor-made teaching and learning, students should choose their graduation project topics under the guidance of their supervisors by self-selection. After the team and the supervisor have signed the ‘Team Project Supervisor's Agreement’ and submitted it to the faculty, in principle, it cannot be changed arbitrarily. (Deadline for submission: 6 September 2024)
2. The content of the graduation project should be in line with the basic requirements of professional teaching, reflecting the principle of close integration of teaching and scientific research, technology development, economic construction and social development, focusing on the cultivation of students' practical ability, creativity and innovation, and strengthening the systematic and comprehensive training of students in working on the graduation project.
3. The graduation project can be completed by one student independently or through teamwork (2-4 students). If students form a team, each student is required to work together to complete the project while also specifying the content of the work to be completed independently and the corresponding workload. Each student is required to submit an independent graduation thesis/report.
(ii) Group meetings and guidance
1. During the graduation project period (June 2024-May 2025), each student or each team should arrange no less than 6 group meetings. Students should report progress to their supervisor, and the supervisor must sign the " Graduation Project Meeting and supervise minutes”.
(iii) Thesis submission and oral defense
1. Students must submit their graduation project within the time specified by the faculty. The relevant requirements for graduation project are as follows:

Graduation project text requirement: no less than 10,000 words.

Students’ graduation projects are required to have a unified cover and a unified format.
2. The submitted thesis/report will be finalized after confirmation by the supervisor and enter the plagiarism checking stage. Students are required to use the university library's checking service. A check rate of less than 20% is considered a pass.
3. Thesis/report that pass through the plagiarism check will enter the paper review stage after being confirmed by the supervisor. Students are required to submit the following documents: (Deadline: March 6, 2025)

4. Thesis review is divided into two parts: supervisor review and expert review.

Supervisor’s review: The supervisor should carefully review the thesis and provide comments (opinions and suggestions on whether the student is qualified for the defense). Supervisor should discover and correct students' academic misconduct in a timely manner and may disqualify students from defending if necessary.

Expert review: The faculty organizes experts to review each student's thesis, thesis plagiarism check report and the actual completion of the thesis. The review experts review the defense qualifications and fill in the review opinions.
5. Only students whose thesis pass through the plagiarism check, with supervisor confirmation and expert review are allowed to participate in the oral defense. Notes on oral defense:

Students need to use PPT to prepare a speech within 10 minutes.

Print out three paper copies of the thesis.

The oral examination will be conducted by the supervisor and the evaluation team at the oral defense venue, and scores will be given on the " FYP Evaluation Form ".

If the defense is passed, the supervisor and the judging panel will sign the "Undergraduate Oral Defense Committee Review and Approval Form".

If the defense is temporarily passed, the student will need to revise the thesis within the specified period.

If the defense is not passed, the student needs to apply for 2nd oral defense.
6. After passing the oral defense, the student must submit the final version of the thesis to the supervisor for review. After passing the review, the graduation project and other relevant materials will be submitted to the faculty for electronic and paper archiving. Students need to submit:

After passing the defense, the student will receive the "Undergraduate Oral Defense Committee Approval Form" signed by the supervisor and the panel of judges.
