In order to meet the demand for data science/big data technology in mainland China, City University of Macau has launched a master's degree course in data science (Master of Data Science). Through a multi-disciplinary big data course system, it introduces a new teaching model and aims to cultivate data science/big data professionals with big data-based thinking and literacy, skills related to data analysis and application, broad knowledge, ability to acquire knowledge independently, strong practical ability, awareness of innovation and awareness of teamwork.

Admissions Major: Data Science
This major combines the application needs of data insight, organization, analysis, governance and implementation in industry, urban governance and government management to cultivate data insight and organizational capabilities, big data development capabilities, application capabilities, and smart business analysis capabilities. and data governance capabilities. The teaching language is bilingual "Chinese and English".

Data has become a hot topic of great concern in industry, business circles, academia, and even governments around the world, and has become an important production factor in industries and business functions. Jobs such as data scientists, data analysts, business analysts, and data architects have become "the most attractive jobs in the 21st century" and have become the hottest jobs in the world. From 2013 to 2017, not long after the national strategy of "Digital China" was proposed, the information infrastructure was still in its early stages of development, and the emerging position of data analysts in line with the development of the times was growing at a growth rate of 2.3%. In recent years, more and more companies have joined the process of digital transformation, and the information infrastructure has matured, which has also stimulated market demand for data-related positions. In 2020, the latest emerging careers report released by LinkedIn shows that 15 emerging positions are growing at an annual growth rate of more than 20%. Among them, the proportion of positions with data analysis as the main job function accounts for 20%, namely artificial intelligence experts, data scientists, and data engineers.
"China Big Data Analysis Talent Survey Report 2018" pointed out that the average monthly salary level of data analysts with a doctorate degree or above is 21k; the equivalent monthly salary of a master's degree and postgraduate degree is 17.5k. The demand for data analysts grew exponentially from 2014 to 2018, with steady growth in various regions. The number of positions at the end of 2015 increased by 2.6 times compared with 2014, and the number of positions in 2018 increased by 4 times compared with 2014.
With the accelerated development of big data, the recruitment demand for data analysts has shown a growth trend since 2016, and it is predicted that the recruitment demand in the market will still grow significantly in the future; in particular, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is accelerating the spatial agglomeration of the digital technology industry. Promote basic innovation in information technology, create new advantages in basic information industries, actively build big data industry clusters, jointly improve artificial intelligence industry clusters, vigorously build world-class smart city clusters, and build a world-class financial center. Therefore, the employment prospects are extremely broad, and the wages are generous.
4. Learning methods and years of study
1. The study mode is full-time.

1. Admission without written test, direct interview (limited to master's degree applicants)
i) Candidates who take part in the 2023 Mainland China National Postgraduate Admissions Examination and whose initial test scores reach the nationally prescribed district one score will be exempted from the written test; those who are studying in Macau or studying in outstanding universities recommended by mainland institutions that have signed an academic cooperation and exchange agreement with the university will be exempted from the written test.
