‘The Conference on Innovative Development of Higher Education - Talent Cultivation and Digital Resonance was successfully held at the Southern University of Science and Technology , and City University of Macao Vice- Vice Rector Wanlei Zhou was invited to attend the conference and delivered a speech titled “The Attempts of City University of Macau in Breaking through the Barrier of Industry-Education Integration”. City University of Macau's Attempts to Break through the Barrier of Industry-Education Integration’. Focusing on the demand for digital talents in the future society, the conference started from various dimensions, such as industrial upgrading, innovation of talent cultivation mode, and cooperation between universities and enterprises, to clarify the way and mechanism of cultivating digital talents, explore the mode of industry-industry fusion between higher education and industry, and to promote the cultivation of an environment of innovative talents, so as to cope with the development of the future society.
At the meeting, Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei shared the challenges faced by CityU in transforming from a teaching university to a teaching and research university, as well as the implementation of related work. He pointed out that in order to promote the university's transformation and development, CityU has formulated a clear plan to attract and retain top-notch faculty members, bring in advanced research facilities, equipment and technologies to support faculty research, create distinctive interdisciplinary research centres and institutes, and encourage a culture of research and innovation in the university. In addition, CityU has developed a strong research funding strategy and support and management measures; developed distinctive research and innovation programmes to attract top students and provide them with research opportunities; established indicators and standards to measure the productivity, impact and excellence of its research students; and regularly assessed the University's research performance and made strategic decisions. Under the guidance of the relevant policies, CityU, as a liberal arts-based university, has made a lot of breakthroughs in the integration of industry and education in recent years.
Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei continued to talk about CityU's active support for the SAR Government's long-term strategy and major initiatives for economic and social development, and the use of big data technology as a support to promote the development and construction of new humanities, social sciences and cross-disciplinary subjects. Currently, CityU has already offered or plans to offer programmes in intelligent technology and services, financial technology, intelligent interaction design, intelligent health and wellness, etc., which have made practical and effective explorations to promote the innovative development of higher education disciplines.
Co-organised by the Southern University of Science and Technology, the UNESCO Centre for Innovation in Higher Education (Shenzhen, China), the Institute of Humanities and Arts of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and the organising committee of the Global Education 50 Forum, the conference set up three thematic forums, namely, ‘Reshaping the Ecology of Higher Education’, ‘Activating the Core of Talent Cultivation’, ‘Activating the Core of Digital Intelligence’, and ‘The Future of Higher Education’. Three thematic forums were set up, namely ‘Reshaping the Ecology of Higher Education’, ‘Activating the Kernel of Talent Cultivation through Digital Intelligence’ and ‘Breaking through the Barrier of Industry-Education Integration’, which brought together experts and scholars from all walks of life, industry leaders and education practitioners, and put forward a series of innovative ideas and paths of practice through keynote speeches, round-table forums, interactive exchanges and other forms of communication.
