Jun Yan, PhD

Professor-level senior engineer, national distinguished expert, state Council Special Allowance Expert, foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and chairman of Zhuhai Aerospace Microchips Science & Technology Co Ltd (former name as Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd.)

He is currently the vice president of the China Society for Geodesy Photogrammetry and Cartography, president of the Zhuhai Doctoral Association, deputy director of the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Professional Committee of the China Society for Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography deputy director; adjunct professor at Harbin Institute of Technology, honorary dean and visiting professor at the School of Big Data at Qingdao University of Science and Technology, and distinguished professor at Zhongkai University of Agricultural and Engineering.

 

Major awards

The major scientific research project of the hyperspectral remote sensing satellite constellation led by Academician Jun Yan has filled the gap in hyperspectral satellite constellations. It can realize continuous quantitative remote sensing, promoting the development of quantitative remote sensing data acquisition and application by satellites, and having a positive impact on the industrial landscape of commercial aerospace and satellite big data in China.

Major representative academic contributions, important innovative achievements and their scientific value or socio-economic significance

Academician Jun Yan has led the Zhuhai Orbital Team in actively cultivating the fields of aerospace chips and remote sensing satellite constellations. He holds seven invention patents, has published five monographs, and has published dozens of professional papers. The serialized aerospace SOC processor chips and SIP micro-system chips designed and developed under the leadership of Dr. Yan Jun have achieved the design goals of localization, miniaturization, low cost and industrialization of aerospace chips, and have been widely used in the field of aerospace industrial control. The “Zhuhai-1” commercial remote sensing hyperspectral satellite constellation (8 hyperspectral satellites in orbit) and satellite ground system, which he presided over the development of, have a service capability of covering the whole world in 2.5 days, filling the gap, enabling continuous quantitative remote sensing observation of the global ecological environment, promoting the development of satellite quantitative remote sensing data acquisition and application, and having a positive impact on the continued development of the global commercial aerospace and satellite big data industry landscape.

Academician Jun Yan focuses on industry-university-research cooperation and continues to cultivate talent for the company's technology platform. Since the establishment of the Orbita “postdoctoral research workstation” in 2018, there have been five postdoctoral fellows and two postdoctoral fellows. In accordance with the requirements of national, provincial and municipal scientific and technological and economic development, as well as the company's scientific and technological research and development strategy, we are actively laying the groundwork to promote the transformation of technological achievements and industrial development in new aerospace electronics, satellite big data, artificial intelligence, etc..  He has established joint laboratories with Wuhan University, Chongqing University, Guizhou University and other education institutions, and at the same time served as an adjunct professor at Harbin Institute of Technology and an honorary dean of the School of Big Data at Qingdao University of Science and Technology. He has initiated co-operation and training of students in the fields of intelligent control, satellite big data, intelligent processing and data analysis, and has achieved a series of scientific research results.
