On September 7, 2023, the Faculty of Data Science of City University of Macau held a lecture titled "My View on Research Methodology" in N104, and invited Professor Chengqi Zhang, Associate Vice President (Research Relationships China), Pro Vice Chancellor (China Enterprise) and Distinguished Professor of the University of Technology, Sydney, as the guest speaker.
Professor Chengqi Zhang started with Confucian thought, learning, thinking, doing and writing, and used the metaphor of hammer and nails to vividly describe the research methods that a successful master's or doctorate needs to master. Then he introduced in detail how to think about and write each part from the title and other aspects. Afterwards, Professor Zhang left everyone with his thoughts on planning for the doctoral stage through two questions: "What is the next plan?" and "Am I confident to enter the next stage?" In the final Q&A session, Associate Professor Zuobin Ying raised questions about thesis topic selection on behalf of the doctoral students. This lecture was opened by Professor Wanlei Zhou, Vice Rector of City University of Macau and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, and hosted by Associate Professor Zuobin Ying, Programme Coordinator of the Faculty of Data Science. Through this special lecture, all master's and doctoral students can have a clearer and clearer plan for their academic research life and also make their research more effective with half the effort.
