The Faculty of Data Science Orientation for New Students for the 2024/2025 Academic Year



The Faculty of Data Science successfully held the 2024/2025 Academic Year New Student Orientationfor all students of the Faculty of Data Science to introduce the faculty and staff, share campus life and experiences, and introduce important notices of the university. 

 

The orientation meeting invited Professor Wanlei Zhou, Vice President of  City University of Macau and Dean of Faculty of Data Science, Professor Tianqing Zhu, Vice Dean, Associate Professor Wenjian Liu, Vice Dean, Associate Professor Zuobin Ying, the Doctoral Programme Coordinator , Assistant Professor Weng Tak Kuok, the Master's Programme Coordinator, Assistant Professor Chia-Wei Chu, the Bachelor’s Programme Coordinator, all academic staff of the faculty, and administrative staff of the faculty to attend. More than 400 new students participated online and offline. 

 

Dean Professor Wanlei Zhou delivered a warm welcome speech, introducing the background and development direction of the school and welcoming the new students to join the big family of the Faculty of Data Science. At the same time, he encouraged the new students to make full use of the university's rich academic resources and pursue excellence. Vice Dean Tianqing Zhu, introduced the faculty's goals and expectations for students, emphasizing the importance of academic interests in choosing an academic program and looking forward to learning and growing together with all the students in the future. Vice Dean Wenjian Liu introduced the faculty's academic discipline construction and teaching team, and emphasized that the faculty has an experienced and dynamic faculty team. The teachers not only have outstanding academic achievements, but also actively participate in the guidance and support of students. 

 

Subsequently, the Programme Coordinators introduced the programme, teaching philosophy and important milestones of each course, emphasizing the balance between basic and elective courses, and encouraging freshmen to make use of the rich course resources to explore areas of interest. The freshmen were urged to pay attention to physical and mental health, teamwork, and comprehensive development. Balancing study and life will be able to achieve excellent academic results while enjoying their university years. 

 

Finally, the orientation meeting was successfully concluded in a warm atmosphere of interaction. This orientation meeting deepened students' understanding of the university and the faculty, helped new students integrate into the campus, establish relationships, understand the programme, and lay a foundation for their university life.
