The Faculty of Data Science - Teaching Workshop



In order to improve the quality of teaching and promote the exchange of experiences, the Faculty of Data Science organized a teaching workshop on August 22, 2024. The workshop invited Professor Wanlei Zhou, Vice President of City University of Macau and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, Professor Tianqing Zhu, Vice Dean, Associate Professor Wenjian Liu, Vice Dean, Associate Professor Zuobin Ying, Doctoral Programme Coordinator , Associate Professor Chia-Wei Chu, Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of  Computer Science, Assistant Professor Hoi Io Kong, Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of  Intelligence Technology and Services, and all the faculty teachers of the faculty were present. 

 

 

During the workshop, Dean Professor Wanlei Zhou encouraged all the teachers and shared his insights and expectations for teaching. His sharing inspired every teacher present and prompted everyone to think together about how to better support student learning in teaching. 

 

 

Vice Dean Professor Tianqing Zhu shared her teaching experience at universities in mainland China and abroad, encouraging teachers to actively explore diverse teaching methods and emphasizing the importance of intercultural communication. She also suggested that teachers participate in international seminars and academic exchange activities to broaden their horizons, enhance academic cooperation, and ultimately promote the improvement of teaching quality. Vice Dean Wenjian Liu, Associate Professor, shared his teaching experience, focusing on how to stimulate students' interest in learning in the classroom. By interacting with students from different backgrounds, teachers can gain richer teaching inspiration and improve their professionalism. 

 

 

Associate Professor Zuobin Ying, Doctoral Programme Coordinator, shared the philosophy of programme design and discussed how to effectively guide students in completing their degree theses and research projects. Associate Professor Chu Chia-Wei, Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of  Computer Science, reviewed past teaching experiences and shared a number of student cases, so that teachers can better understand and solve similar problems.

 

Assistant Professor Hoi Io Kong, Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of Intelligence Technology and Services, introduced the content of the undergraduate graduation design to help teachers better understand the problems students may encounter during the graduation design process. 

In addition, Professor Jia Gu and Assistant Professor Gengshen Wu also shared their teaching and research experience, providing valuable advice and guidance for young teachers. 

 

The workshop provided an interactive platform for faculty members to discuss teaching methods, exchange best practices, and explore strategies to improve student learning outcomes, injecting new vitality into the teaching environment. The Faculty of Data Science is committed to continuously improving the quality of teaching and looks forward to more such activities in the future to further promote teaching exchange and cooperation.
