The Faculty of Data Science successfully held the "2023 Academic Year Freshman Orientation" at 3:30 pm on October 11, 2023, at the University Cultural Center. The briefing session invited Professor Wanlei Zhou, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, City University of Macau, Associate Professor Wenjian Liu, Vice Dean, Associate Professor Zuobin Ying, Coordinator of Graduate Programme, Associate Professor Chia-Wei Chu, Coordinator of Undergraduate Programme, Assistant Professor Weng Tak Kuok, Coordinator of Student and Academic Activities Programme, and all teachers. were present to participate, as well as freshmen from two bachelor's degree programmes and four graduate degree programmes. He introduced the faculty’s development prospects, teaching projects and tutors’ research directions. The course director also explained the important time points and graduation requirements for graduate students during their time in school. In addition, the faculty set up two promotional event booths and specially invited representatives from Guangdong Hengqin Global Space Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd. to demonstrate AI technology and customize mobile phone cases for teachers and students. Members of the IEEE City University of Macau Student Chapter introduced the membership details to the new students. . 

Dean Professor Wanlei Zhou introduced the faculty’s discipline construction, teaching staff, scientific research results, talent training and future ideas at the briefing meeting. He introduced that the Faculty of Data Science of City University of Macau is based on high-quality, multi-level, and international talent training. The faculty has also formed doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees in multiple disciplines such as Intelligent Technology and Services, Data Science, and Computer Science. and other multi-level talent training systems. Finally, Professor Wanlei Zhou emphasized the importance of academic ambition in choosing academic projects based on his early academic experience. 

Associate Professor Wenjian Liu gave a detailed introduction to the goal orientation and training process of graduate students. He emphasized that the faculty’s goal for doctoral training is to cultivate high-level scholars with broad academic horizons, solid theoretical foundations, complete professional knowledge, proficiency in research methods, and ambitions to engage in data science research. The three programme coordiantors also gave an overall introduction to the faculty's teaching projects and a brief explanation of their own research directions. They look forward to learning and growing with all students in the future. 

All full-time teachers of the faculty came to the stage one by one to give detailed introductions to the graduate students from the perspectives of personal education experience and academic research. Afterwards, the Programme Coordinator Chia-Wei Chu gave a detailed explanation of the undergraduate courses and important information for students during their time at school; the Programme Coordinator Zuobin Ying gave a detailed explanation of the postgraduate course arrangements and graduation requirements. 

Finally, the orientation session for new students ended successfully in a warm atmosphere of communication and interaction.
