On the morning of April 16, 2021, the Data Science Institute held the "Special Lecture on Data Science for the 40th Anniversary of City University of Macau - Towards Sustainable Development of the Data Industry and the United Nations" at the Ho Yin Conference Center. This lecture invited Dr. Huang Jingbo, Director of the UNU Research Institute in Macau, as the moderator, and her team members Dr. Ignacio Marcovecchio, Project Manager of the UNU Research Institute in Macau, Dr. Serge Stinckwich, Research Chair of the UNU Research Institute in Macau, United Nations Dr. Mamello Thinyane, chief researcher of the University's Macau Research Institute, and Mr. Ben Lipson, chief consultant of data collection, were guest speakers.
Guests attending the event also included Professor Zhou Wanlei, Vice Rector of City University of Macau, Distinguished Chair Professor Du Wencai of the Institute of Data Science, Assistant Professor Liu Wenjian, Programme Coordinator, Assistant Professor Kuok Weng Tak and Assistant Professor Kong Koi Io.
Dr. Ignacio Marcovecchio introduced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda to the students, using easy-to-understand examples to help students understand the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are a global goal, and their realization requires mutual cooperation between governments, the private sector and civil society. It is hoped that this lecture can deepen students' understanding of sustainable development and start from daily activities to pay attention to and enhance related awareness.
Dr. Serge Stinckwich introduced the cocoa cultivation project he participated in in Cameroon and explained the theory-led data science model: applied to plant growth modeling.
Dr. Mamello Thinyane explains smart citizen network defense to cope with the ever-changing network security situation, allowing students to manage network security risks more effectively.
Mr. Ben Lipson used vivid and interesting examples to explain his career sharing, hoping that through dialogue and experience exchange, it would help inspire students to change their thinking from school to the workplace.
The students were deeply interested in the subject content and actively asked questions in English. The special lecture lasted for 3 hours, and the students came away with a full load of knowledge.
